Tour du Midi

written by Vincent

La tour du Midi which would be roughly translated in English into the South Tower is the tallest building of Brussels and of the whole country of Belgium as well. With 32 stories it stands at 150 meters or 162 depending if you include the antenna. The South Tower was build by the state between 1962 and 1965 and its main purpose was to regroup all the government agencies that deal with the administration of the pension system. It’s located next to the newly rebuilt Brussels South train station.

written by Vincent

The Delirium Tremens Café has a selection of 2000 different beers which makes the menu handed out by the waiter seem even thicker than your yellow pages phone book directory. Not surprisingly then that under these circumstances on the 9 January 2004 it has won the very prestigious Guinness book of world records for being the establishment with the most commercially available beers with a total count of 2004. If you are there on a Thursday don’t miss the live band playing downstairs from 10PM until 2AM which make the best free jam session of all Brussels. The Delirium Tremens bar is located at 4 Impasse De La Fidélité just off the famous rue des Bouchers.

Hotel Van Eetvelde

by Vincent February 8, 2008
written by Vincent

The Hotel Van Eetvelde is a magnificent Art Nouveau townhouse that was designed in two stages by Victor Horta. The bold facade of no.4, with its visible metal structure, dates from 1895. The architect has been particularly innovative with this, as well as with the interior spaces, which are organized around a glassed in area which bathes the refined reception rooms with a soft light. Completed a few years later, the corner extension (n°. 2) is easily recognizable from its carefully sculpted stone facade. The Federation of Gas Industry has been located here since 1950.
