Tour des Brigittines mural by Bonom

The new mural by Bonom is Located at rue des Brigittines 12, Brussels, Belgium

On this same wall, in 2017 a gory mural of a bloodied corpse hanging upside down running the length of the building appeared which shocked many as it was visible from all commuters taking the train line in and out of Brussels.

The previous unofficial mural by Bonom of e 17th century painter Jan de Baen: The corpses of the De Witt brothers

Art connoisseurs recognized it as Bonom’s take on a work made by the 17th century painter Jan de Baen: The corpses of the De Witt brothers which depicts the double murder of the Dutch regents Johan and Cornelis De Witt.

New Quick & Flupke Mural in the Marolles

by Vincent July 10, 2020
written by Vincent

Quick & Flupke, the two little rascals created by Hergé have now found an all new playground for their mischievously acts. Indeed, the previous mural found on the building at the corner of rue Haute and rue des Capucins had to be taken down in order to make way for a new housing project. The new work of art of the kids, wearing their famous red turtleneck and their green raincoat can now be admired at 19 rue Notre-Seigneur, 1000 Brussels.

“As key figures in Belgian comic strip world, they had to keep a place onthe Brussels comic strip route. What was more, these two “ketjes” had to stay in the Marolles, so dear to the author, as Hergé’s grandmother lived on rue Terre-Neuve. To add a funny little anecdote: this is also the official address of Tintin, except that “Newfoundland” has been mischievously renamed “Labrador” in fiction “.

Explains Ans Persoons, Deputy mayor in Brussels in charge of urban planning and responsible for the Comic Strip route.
Quick and Flupke mural

Like Tintin, Quick & Flupke are real Brusseleirs. These nicknames are moreover typically from Brussels dialect with: “Flupke” for Philippe and “Quick” being a nickname given to a friend of Hergé.

This Quick & Flupke mural is the 54th along the Brussels comic strip route with an estimated cost to the city of around 12 500€

Some of the art featured in the entrance was made by Micheal Golz (Germany), an artist who is best known for mapping out a imaginary world named Athosland as a bit of an outcast child growing up with learning disabilities. Started in the 1960’s, this has become a life-long project for him that has spanned for over fifty years now.

These big tarot cards above are the work of the artist Yves-Jules. Bulimic at work, he intuitively or on command creates an astonishing number of portraits relating to royal and presidential families around the world. Conscientious, Yves dissects and interprets, with a magnifying glass, each detail of the photos which serve as models and enlarges them on the canvas in
layers of acrylic. The language of colors does the rest. The work is characterized by a meticulous and lively highlighting of each element, previously drawn with a thick black line, which makes the artist’s style so personal and recognizable.
