Conceptissimo In The City

by Vincent August 16, 2020
written by Vincent

An artist going under the pseudonym of Noccito decided to brighten up the city of Brussels by doing an experimental “Conceptissimo In The City” exhibit in the streets of Brussels. This consisted placing places framed flower arrangements in the urban environment of our Capital.

Flowers

Conceptissimo In The City originally took place between Easter and Assumption Day of 2019. While most only survived a few days or just hours, some did manage to last for months and surprisingly enough a few are still there to this day a year after. Pictures in this post are the two I stumbled on these two this summer attached to trees of in front of the Sainte-Croix church while walking around the Ixelles pond on a scorching hot summer day.

The two surviving Conceptissimo In The City flower arrangements can be found at: Place Sainte-Croix, 1050 Ixelles, Brussels, Belgium

Breaking Borders mural by Delicious Brains

This beautiful mural was commissioned in 2017 by Parcours Streetart. Sadly to this date no information could be found on their site about the project. The only information found on the internet was on the Delicious Brains website where a brief description by the project Swedish artist was mentioned and can read below.

Breaking Borders by Delicious Brains (2017)
“Breaking Borders” mural by Artist Kim Deman aka Delicious Brains is found at rue des Palais Outre-Ponts 387, Brussels, Belgium

“This wall illustrates an imaginary wall, conditioned to have us move behind material borders. But with self-belief a border is bendable with just a thought. Yet they try separate us with physical walls. This portal expresses the desire to break free from the concrete jungles that are big cities. I see it as a Concrete Cocoon released and breaking a ‘impression barrier.”

Quoted by artist Kim Demåne better known as Delicious Brains

The colorful mural entitled: “The First Date Mural” is the work of artist Olivier Binamé aka Oli-B. Commissioned at the request of the residents neighborhoods committee it was painted on a wall of a house recently purchased by five young fans of the artist.

The First Date Mural by Artist Oli-B

The First Date mural is located at the corner of rue du Tocsin & rue Jenneval, Brussels, Belgium

“The purpose of the painting here was to make people dream. The abstract composition allows each spectator to come up with they very own interpretation. For me, it was a search for a balance between shapes and colors”.

Regarding the street art, Olivier Binamé went on to say that Brussels had in the past too long remained frozen on the theme of comic strips murals which left little space for anything else. And of course, compared to other capitals, we are a good decade behind! But luckily things are changing and several people working within the city of Brussels cultural affairs have been opening up the space to graffiti artists which is quite exciting for us.

The “at the foot of a tree” Mural by Arist Nean can be found at Avenue Rogier 263, Schaerbeek, Brussels, Belgium

NEAN is a Belgian street graffiti artist who grew up in Brussels. Self-taught, he made his debut on paper before turning to spray paint. In 2014, he joined the famous Belgian collective Propaganza, made up of around twenty artists from Belgium, France, Spain and England. Influenced by traditional painting and digital art, his work gravitates between an experimental style and photo realism. Curious about everything, he multiplies the tests on large supports, alternating digital painting, painting on wall and painting on canvas.

by Vincent August 3, 2020
written by Vincent

The KANAL-Centre Pompidou is a result of a 10 year partnership between the renowned Parisian Centre Pompidou and the city of Brussels. The new cultural center is located in a former Citroën factory dating from the 1930’s, one of the biggest of it’s time in Europe which holds an impressive 38,000 m2.

KANAL - Center Pompidou

Once fully renovated in 2022, the KANAL-Centre Pompidou will become the single largest cultural institution of Brussels devoted purely to contemporary art and architecture in all its form.

KANAL - Center Pompidou

Exhibitions and artistic residencies were organized for 14 months under the general commission of the Center Pompidou. Below and above are pictures, from among other things of the Phantom Offices & Red and white exhibitions.

KANAL - Center Pompidou

the KANAL – Center Pompidou is located along the Willebroek canal, in a bit of a run down neighborhood currently undergoing major transformation and gentrification.
