American Indian street performers

by Vincent October 6, 2008
written by Vincent

American Indian street street artists performing at the corner or Rue du Marché aux Herbes and Agora Square. Seems to be the new rage right now in Europe. South Americans which dress up like North American Indians playing music with South American instruments and chanting unauthentic & stereotypical songs. Well from the crowds that gather to watch them and the money they get the Europeans either don’t seem to notice the difference or just don’t mind.

Etangs d’Ixelles

by Vincent October 3, 2008
written by Vincent

From the four originals pounds of Les Étangs d’Ixelles (French for The Ixelles Ponds) only two have survived the 1860 campaign of drying the Maalbeek valley wetlands. The Ixelles Ponds are imposing in size at 700X50 metres and were originally an extension of the gardens of the Abbey de La Cambre. Making up a long strip of almost non-stop greenery that goes deep into the Forêt de Soignes this is a very popular recreation area for residents of Brussels.

La maison des chats

by Vincent September 13, 2008
written by Vincent

La maison des chats or what would be translated into English as The House of Cats is a Flemish Neo-Renaissance building that won a first prize at the facade Contest organized by the City between 1872 and 1876 in the context of laying out the new Center boulevards. Designed according to the project of H. Beyaert, this building dating from 1874 promotes a “national” style, inspired by local models. The traditional and typical patterns of Flemish architecture are interpreted with it and freedom to show the revival of art and culture in Belgium.

Parks

Parc d’Egmont

by Vincent September 3, 2008
written by Vincent

Le Parc d’Egmont (The Egmont Park) is composed of the formed-gardens of the Egmont palace which were modified several times between the XVI century and 1902, dates on which architect Galoppin laid it out as it is now. This park forms a pleasant little oasis of peace and tranquility in the heart of a very busy urban district.
